When closed-circuit cooling towers are operated outdoors in winter, a series of effective anti-freezing measures must be adopted to prevent freezing of the cooling water system. First, the ambient operating temperature of the cooling tower shall be kept within a safe range to avoid cooling water freezing caused by excessively low temperature. Second, antifreeze can be added to lower the freezing point of cooling water and effectively prevent icing.
In addition, heating devices such as electric heating tapes or hot water circulation systems can be installed to maintain the internal temperature of the tower and ensure the cooling water remains unfrozen. Under extremely cold weather conditions, the cooling tower can be covered with thermal insulation materials to isolate low external temperature and reduce heat loss.
Finally, regular inspection and routine maintenance of the cooling tower are essential to guarantee the effectiveness of anti-freezing arrangements and ensure stable and normal operation of the equipment throughout winter.
